Masteller to Retire from “The Fanatic” at Year’s End

WPEN-FM, Philadelphia program director Scott Masteller announces he’ll retire from the Beasley Media Group sports talk station on December 31 capping a radio career that’s spanned more than 45 years. Beasley Philadelphia VP and market manager Paul Blake says, “Scott has brought tremendous knowledge, thoughtful leadership and a deep commitment to excellence to ‘The Fanatic.’ He understands what makes sports radio meaningful to its audience and has always been generous in sharing his insight with those around him. Scott was key in The Fanatic’s growth, and he helped position the station well for its next chapter. We are deeply grateful for Scott’s contributions and congratulate him on an outstanding career and a well-earned retirement.” During Masteller’s career he served with are ESPN Dallas, ESPN Radio, and WBAL, Baltimore, plus stops in Portland, Salt Lake City, and Lexington, Kentucky.

Report: WPEN-FM, Philadelphia’s Anthony Gargano in “Contractual Situation”

According to a story by Kevin Kinkead at Crossing Broad, it appears WPEN-FM, Philadelphia “The Fanatic” morning drive host Anthony Gargano is dealing with a contractual situation with employer Beasley Media Group after ALLCITY announced the lineup for its soon-to-debut digital sports platform PHLY and Gargano is promoted as part of it. It’s likely Gargano has some sort of non-compete in his contract that would prevent him from being part of the new venture, at least immediately. ALLCITY CEO Brandon Spano is quoted in the Philly Inquirer saying, “At the moment, we are trying to determine exactly what that involvement looks like as we navigate his contractual situation with the Beasley Media Group. What we can promise is that Anthony will be involved in many aspects of the network and at some point, fans will be able to watch him and listen to him on PHLY.” See the Crossing Broad piece here.
