MIW Releases Gender Analysis Study

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc releases its latest annual MIW Gender Analysis Study (based on raw data collected by PrecisionTrak in 2023) that compiles and analyzes the number of women in radio broadcasting who are rising to the ranks of management – general manager, sales manager, and program director/brand manager. For the general manager position, 22.17% (2,356im stations) had women holding the position in 2023 (+2% over 2022). In 2004, females represented 14.9% of GMs. In the top 100 markets, 23.96% (828 stations) were managed by women (+1% over 2022). Overall, the best management opportunities for women in radio continues to be in sales management as 34.37% (3,476 stations) had a woman sales manager in 2023 (basically flat from 2022). MIW calls program directors/brand managers “the greatest challenge for women in radio management” as women currently program 11.50% (1,173 stations) – basically flat from 2022. In the top 100 markets, female programmers now represent just 10.14% of the total number of PDs, which is another drop of over 3% from 2022. MIW Announces 2023 Mildred Carter Mentoring Class

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc introduces the MIW Mildred Carter Mentoring Program’s Class of 2023. Now in its 22nd year, this enriching opportunity matches up-and-comingim women in radio with female professionals recognized as leaders in all aspects of the industry. The 2023 class is comprised of broadcast professionals Rosanna Cole, regional traffic manager, Townsquare Media; Caleigh Fisher, director of teammate experience, Good Karma Brands; Kristi Nguyen, director, digital sales & campaign management, Audacy; and Jade Springart, WRIF-FM program director, Beasley Media Group.

Mildred Carter Mentoring Program Application Now Open

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc (MIW) announces that the application window for its 2023-2024 Mildred Carter Mentoring Program is now open through November 3. Established in 2002, MIW’s heritage annual mentoring initiative connects mentees with accomplished women recognized asim leaders, mentors, and game changers within all aspects of radio broadcasting. Four candidates from the radio broadcasting industry – within all of the disciplines of radio including sales, marketing, programming, and digital – will be selected for the 2023- 2024 program. MIW board president Ruth Presslaff comments, “We are so pleased to launch the Mildred Carter mentorship program with the very generous and consistent support of Beasley Media Group and Entravision. SiriusXM and New England College announce that former Vice President Mike Pence will take part in a town hall event with P.O.T.U.S. channel hosts Julie Mason and Steve Scully. The special will take place before an audience at New England College outside Concord, New Hampshire on September 6, with the one-hour special premiering at 3:00 pm ET.

LiveOne announces that its subsidiary, PodcastOne, secures a long contract extension with co-founder and president, Kit Gray. LiveOne CEO and chairman Robert Ellin comments, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Kit Gray. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in building PodcastOne into the success it is today.”

FOX Sports Radio announced the addition of NFL pro tight end and two-time Pro Bowler Kyle Rudolph to its lineup as co-host of “FOX Football Sunday” with FSR weekend personality Mark Willard.

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc and the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation announce that Lucretia Lee-Arceneaux is the first  2023 MIW NABLF Launch program recipient. Launch is a brand-new partnership between MIW and the NAB Leadership Foundation dedicated to supporting and guiding women in radio who are relatively new to the industry. The first of its kind, this program will target the development and curation of talent, this year focused on the engineering side of radio. Lee-Arceneaux serves as a broadcast IT engineer with iHeartMedia.

MIW and McVay Media Announce “Behind the Mic” Mentoring Program

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc and McVay Media announce the “Behind the Mic Mentorship”im program designed specifically to support the growth and evolution of women on-the-air. The “Behind The Mic Mentorship” program is a year-long experience exclusively for female personalities that have been in an on-air position for at least three to five years in local or national radio programming and have demonstrated a desire to grow their on-air career. The selected mentee will receive personalized conversations and advice from a wide range of industry professionals including two of radio’s top stars – national radio and television personality and Gracie Award winner Elaina D. Smith of “Nights with Elaina,” and WLTW, New York morning personality Christine Nagy. The mentorship is available to one female on-air personality from any U.S. based music format. WBA and MIW Sponsor Mentoring Program

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association is partnering with Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio Inc to launch a mentorship program aimed at advancing female leadership in radio broadcasting. WBA president and CEO Michelle Vetterkind states, “Your WBA is thrilled to offer this excellent opportunity to our members.im We’re confident there will be many qualified applicants seeking to take advantage of this fabulous partnership.” Wisconsin is the second state to partner with MIW, which is hoping to expand to all 50 states. Minnesota launched the first partnership last year. MIw board president Ruth Presslaff comments, “Welcome Wisconsin! We are so appreciative of the support the Wisconsin broadcasters are showing by launching this mentorship program with MIW. MIW’s Speak Up Mentoring Program Open for Applications

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio, Inc announces that the application window for MIW’s 2023 Speak Up Mentoring Program opens today (3/9) and closes on March 31. Speak Up! is a one-year mentorship program created in partnership with Media Staffing Network founder and CEO Laurie Kahn before her passing last October. MIW says, “The program encapsulates so much of what Laurie brought to the industry; a mentorship that encourages and empowers women to develop confidence, sharpen communication skills and hone the ability to effectively speak up in order to further attain career and personal goals.” One candidate from radio broadcasting, located in a small to medium radio market from any department, will be selected for the 2023 program.
