The sale of seven radio signals from Capitol Broadcasting Company to Curtis Media Group has closed. The $1.75 million deal gives Curtis Media 
WRMR-FM, Jacksonville, NC; WMFD-AM, Wilmington, NC; WKXB-FM, Boiling Spring Lakes, NC; WILT-FM, Wrightsville Beach, NC; WAZO-FM, Southport, NC; and translators W269DF-FX and W240AS-FX, Wilmington, NC. KALIL & CO., INC. was the exclusive broker for this transaction.
Capitol Broadcasting Company applies to sell seven North Carolina signals to Curtis Media Group. Those signals include sports talk WMFD-AM, Wilmington as well as WRMR-FM, Jacksonville; WKXB-FM, Boiling Spring Lakes; WILT-FM, Wrightsville Beach; WAZO-FM, Southport; and translators W269DF-FX and W240AS-FX, Wilmington.
The NFL’s Carolina Panthers and Capitol Broadcasting Company announce they have expanded their partnership to air live Panthers games in the Triangle region on WRAL-FM “MIX 101.5” beginning this fall. Games will be simulcast on “Buzz Sports Radio” (WDNC-AM, Durham; W283DE, Durham and WCMC-HD2, Holly Springs). CBC will continue its local, dedicated coverage and analysis of the Carolina Panthers on WCMC-FM “99.9 The Fan” and “Buzz Sports Radio” along with audio streaming and podcasts. The company says this contract extension through 2027 will make play-by-play broadcasts for all pre-season, regular season and post-season games, as well as the weekly “Panther Talk” and daily “Panthers Update” programs, available to listeners on one of the strongest FM signals in North Carolina.
Capitol Broadcasting Company announces that sports media pro Tim Donnelly is the new host of the afternoon drive program at WCMC-FM, Raleigh “99.9 The Fan,” effective in mid-July. Donnelly most recently served with Max Media’s WVSP-FM, Yorktown, Virginia “ESPN Radio 94.1.” He also serves as a weekend fill-in host for the CBS Sports Radio network. Capitol Broadcasting general manager Brian Grube says, “Tim has a
very successful track record in radio. His experience as a college athlete gives him a truly unique perspective. This is a robust market for sports. College rivalries dominate the landscape while local pro teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, NC Courage and Durham Bulls unite fans under one umbrella. Tim’s coverage will give listeners a broad understanding of the sports that intersect here, and his expert analysis will pinpoint what’s at stake for fans, teams, and the Triangle.” Capitol says, “Afternoon drive on ‘99.9 The Fan’ will also feature the talents of local favorite Dennis Cox, who will produce the show and take on a larger on-air role alongside Tim.” Donnelly will also contribute web content and analysis on WRALSportsFan.com and original longform audio content for the Capitol Broadcasting Podcast Network.
