Cumulus/Westwood One Study: Sports Listeners More Engaged than Sports Viewers. According to a brand-new season-long Nielsen analysis of Portable People Meter tuning for the 2023-2024 season, a total of 64 million people listened to the NFL on Westwood One. This week’s Cumulus Media/Westwood One Audio Active Group blogs break down the findings which indicate among other talking points that the sports listener is more passionate than the TV viewer, giving audio commercials greater impact; that audio is usually closest to the point of purchase reaching busy on-the-go people whose “best available screen” is their in-car AM/FM radio; and that audio reaches desirable consumers – young, employed, upscale, and with greater spending power.
