TALKERS Editor Attends Packers Shareholders Meeting at Lambeau Field

TALKERS vice president and executive editor Kevin Casey attended the annual shareholders meeting of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers held on July 22 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The team debuted as the Acme Packers (funded by the Green Bay-based Acme Meat Packing Company) in 1919 – several years before commercial radio stations took to the airwaves. WTMJ, Milwaukee was the first station to broadcast a Packers game in 1929. The first stock sale was held in 1923 to establish the team as a corporation and raised $5,000. There have been several stock sales since then and registered shareholders now number more than half a million.
