He’s intelligent, diverse and durable. Those three qualities have
allowed Ronn Owens to stay at the top of his game in talk radio for 34
years. He is one of a handful of local hosts who are deemed “great”
enough to appear on this prestigious list.
Owens broke into the talk radio business when it was merely an obscure
format back in 1968 on WCAU, Philadelphia. From there he went to Miami,
Cleveland and Atlanta before settling in San Francisco in 1975 on the
legendary KGO where he’s been ever since. KGO, in part due to the
contributions of Ronn Owens, is one of the greatest individual radio station
success stories in the industry.
His achievements in the ratings on KGO over the past 27 years is a testament
to his ability to deliver compelling talk radio whether the topic is local
politics, pop culture or international news. A winning local host must
be able to do those things to survive for very long and Ronn Owens is
one of the best in the country.
